Woodfin Elementary is excited to welcome back new and returning staff!
Hello, I am Gail Buckner. I am very happy to return to Woodfin Elementary as your Instructional Coach. During my career I've taught every grade Pre-K to Post Graduate, served as a school librarian and as a school and district administrator. 2nd graders, 5th graders, and College Seniors hold a special place in my teacher heart.
In my "free" time I like to read (historical fiction is my favorite but I make myself read at least one informational text per month), bake (dessert is an essential food group), be outdoors (picnicking, splashing in the lake, sitting on the beach - not off grid adventures, think "glamping" not camping), plan large scale events (weddings, reunions, band family social gatherings), spend time with the NBHS Band Family (my daughter is the Drum Major this year), and always, be with my family.
Looking forward to working with you and a great year at Woodfin!

Hello Parents and Guardians,
Our first two Saturday Make Your Mark! camps were a great success, and we have four more camps on April 13th, 20th, 27th, and May 4th. During these camps, students will work on making different products (board games, electronic music, and weavings), and learning about how these different products are made. Students can attend camp at any one of these six middle schools: Erwin, North Buncombe, Owen, Reynolds, Valley Springs, or Enka. On April 13th and 27th, students will take a bus from their middle school campus to one of three field trip locations (Moogseum, Center for Craft, or Well Played Board Game Cafe) and back to their middle school. You can find more details about the camps here. https://www.rooted.place/make-your-mark/
If you are interested in signing your student or students up for one or more of these camps, please fill out this form prior to April 10th.

"The NC School Report Cards website contains snapshots of information about our schools, including the school performance grade, students’ academic growth, how prepared our students are when they enter a school, and a number of other measures as well," said NC Superintendent Catherine Truitt. "These resources are readily available for you and allow transparency into aspects like spending as well as school performance. Although this information is important to know, we know it doesn’t tell the complete story. It doesn’t show the hard work our educators pour in each day for their students and schools and it doesn’t show the spirit of the school itself. No data will be able to show the dedication of our educators nor will it show the extracurricular opportunities, the athletic programs, the apprenticeship, or career preparatory classes - all of which have a profound impact on students and growth."
