Good morning, BCS Families.

Our BCS Transportation teams have been out early this morning monitoring travel conditions. Due to light snow overnight impacting several secondary roads in part of our area, the Enka District and Erwin District of Buncombe County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students today, Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026. Buses will not travel on icy roads. This delayed start gives DOT crews extra time to treat any problem areas, and allows for travel with more daylight. Again, this is a two hour delay for the Enka and Erwin districts only, including Nesbitt Discovery Academy. All other BCS schools are on regular schedule

Breakfast will be served to students when they arrive at school. High schools in the Enka and Erwin districts with final exams scheduled for today will communicate their plans with their families.

While conditions are forecast to improve, BCS Transportation teams will continue to assess conditions. We will update you should we need to further alter today’s school schedule. Again, this is a two hour delay for students in the Enka and Erwin districts only. All other BCS schools are on a regular schedule.

Thank you. Have a good day!

We want to extend our sincerest thanks to Nancy Lynn Sharpless for her thoughtful, generous, and incredibly helpful financial, organizational, and physical contributions to Woodfin Elementary!
Because of her kindness, our Wolverines had the opportunity to bring Earthshine Nature Programs to Woodfin Elementary School! Students were able to meet, touch, and learn about animals native to our area. This hands-on experience brought learning to life in the most meaningful way and sparked curiosity, excitement, and joy throughout the day.
It was a fun-filled and memorable learning opportunity for all, and we are so grateful for the time, care, and heart that went into making it happen. Our school is stronger because of partners like this in our community.

All assignments will be posted by teachers by 10 a.m., or students may have brought home paper packets. Students will have up to 5 school days to complete assignments and will be counted present for the day/class period upon completion of assignments.

Lunch for the day will be available to eat in the cafeteria between noon to 1:00 pm at the following locations: A.C. Reynolds Middle School, Black Mountain Primary, Candler Elementary, Emma Elementary, Estes Elementary, Leicester Elementary, and North Windy Ridge Intermediate.

Students are able to eat at no charge at any of the above locations, and parents can purchase a meal for $5.25 if they desire. A la carte items are also available for purchase.

Stay safe, and have a good day!

Good morning, BCS Families.

Our BCS Transportation teams have been out monitoring travel conditions. Due to a wintry mix that’s fallen across our area since late last night, and freezing temperatures causing the potential for black ice on some secondary roads, Buncombe County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students today, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025. Buses will not travel on icy roads. This delayed start will give DOT crews extra time to treat any problem areas, and allow for safer travel with more daylight.

The Woodfin Wolverines were excited to welcome guest readers from the Erwin Middle School Beta Club. Several of these middle schoolers were once Wolverines! The younger students enjoyed the stories and got to ask questions about middle school, and the older students got a little taste of what it's like to be a teacher! We always welcome these opportunities to share experiences across the Erwin District schools!
