The holiday spirit was full steam ahead for Woodfin Elementary students as they hopped aboard a real-life Polar Express. The Craggy Mountain Line Railroad gave the kids a magical experience straight out of the beloved story, complete with a train ride, hot chocolate and a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus themselves.
Excited children “choo-choo-ed” their way onto the train, bundled up and ready for adventure. As the train chugged along the tracks, students were on the lookout for elves.
The highlight of the trip? A stop to meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus, who were on board to spread cheer and hear holiday wishes. Each child left with a special gift from Santa, ensuring the magic of the day was one they’d never forget.
Woodfin Elementary’s Principal Miranda Wheeler says this field trip is one of the most memorable moments for students.
“The Craggy Mountain Railway is more than just a tradition; it's a symbol of our community's enduring spirit and connection,” said Ms. Wheeler. “Each year, it brings together students, teachers and the community in a shared celebration of discovery and togetherness. As the train winds through our town of Woodfin, it mirrors the journey of growth we all take together—reminding us that the path of learning and friendship is filled with wonder, joy, and the strength of our community connections.”
The experience was the perfect ticket to an unforgettable holiday season, reminding everyone that a little imagination can go a long way. Thanks to the Craggy Mountain Line Railroad, the students at Woodfin Elementary now have memories that will last a long past the final stop.
This experience was made possible by community donors. Thank you Craggy Mountain Line Railroad for the amazing opportunity.
