Call it a cow-lossal collaboration. A guernsey on the gridiron. A pasture pass rush. North Buncombe High School has called on its Agriculture teachers and students to sub in Friday night to help with a special fundraiser.

The Cow Patty Kickoff pre-game rally starts at 4:30pm Friday. You can buy a square at the game, or in advance online, where you think one of the school’s cows will do its business - and that’s no bull! Squares are $10 a piece. The cow will graze around its gridiron until half-time or until it patties (the technical agriculture term for “potty”). The grand prize is $250, and all proceeds benefit the school’s athletics programs and North Buncombe High School Athletic Boosters.

“This is a fun way for our Agriculture and Athletics programs to work together to help our school,” said principal Kevin Yontz. “We’ve got food trucks, a cornhole tournament, and plenty of school spirit for a night of family fun.”

North Buncombe is hosting a big rivalry for its home opener, as the neighboring Madison Patriots visit the Blackhawks in the “Jug Rivalry” matchup, named for the unique trophy for the winning team. The North Buncombe Athletic Boosters even created a song about the game. You can listen to it here.
