Student making a plate on the pottery wheel.

Students in the art program at Charles D. Owen High School traded their classroom for an outdoor pottery studio.

At Firefly Valley Pottery, students explored the art of pottery-making, creating one-of-a-kind pieces while learning new techniques from experienced artists. From shaping clay on the wheel to adding unique details and designs, students had the opportunity to express their creativity in a new medium.

The experience allowed students to build on skills learned in the classroom while gaining a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship and patience required in pottery. As they worked, students experimented with different methods, solved creative challenges, and discovered new ways to bring their artistic visions to life.

Beyond creating their own pottery pieces, the trip provided valuable insight into the artistic process and encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones. The hands-on experience was both educational and inspiring, giving students the chance to learn, create, and connect through art.
