K-6 Teaching Licensure, University of North Carolina at Asheville

Associate of Arts Degree, Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College

Welcome to our classroom page! My name is Emily McKinney and this will be my second year at Woodfin, and my first year teaching 2nd grade. I am honored to be your child's teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. I am a native of Buncombe county and am very grateful to have the opportunity to give back and teach in the community and school system where I also attended. I graduated from UNC Asheville in 2016 with a B.A. in Literature and Language and a K-6 Teaching License.  I enjoy spending time with my husband, my family, playing with my sweet puppy, and reading.

This is an exciting time as our students become proficient readers. Reading at home is essential and parents are such an important support system in helping your child become a successful reader! Our students will follow the Investigations math curriculum.  This curriculum involves many different strands such as problem solving, data collection and measure.  It allows second graders to use a hands-on approach to learning.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by note, email, or calling the school office at 828.232.4287 at any time.

It's going to be a great year!
