Woodfin School Family Engagement Plan

2019-2020


Our goal is to partner with parents to make their children’s educational experience at Woodfin a success.  Many opportunities for communication between parents and staff and for involvement of parents in their children’s education will be provided.  Teachers, parents, students, and principal pledge their commitment each year by signing the Title 1 Home-School Compact – a document which defines the role of all stakeholders in each child’s learning.

 Meetings with parents will be held and surveys will be sent home in order to receive suggestions for improving our school program and meeting parent needs.  Our school website will provide current information for parents, as will our Parent Information Center, which is located in the school lobby.  Copies of our Parent Involvement Plan will be sent to all families in appropriate languages. A copy of Woodfin’s Continuous Improvement Plan will be available for review in our school office and on our website.

Teachers will include educational links on the classroom websites so that parents and students can access instructional resources.   In addition, our library will be open once a week during the summer months for students to use our school library.  To celebrate, we will host a summer reading celebration for those students that met the summer reading goal.

Parents will be kept informed about student progress through conferences and written progress reports.  Homework/behavior logs are sent home each night with assignments.  Space for parent/teacher comments is provided.  Parents are asked to sign the log after students complete their daily assignments. 

 Parent interest and involvement in students’ learning is vital; therefore, we will invite parents to school to see children’s work and attend informational sessions.  Materials will be provided at some sessions.  These are our meeting dates:
